Toastmasters! No they don't make toasters… : AnthonyCutaia.com

Last Friday at noon  I was at the Countess De Hoernle Historic Train Depot on Dixie Highway in Boca Raton for my first Toastmaster Club meeting.

The Toastmasters Club started in a YMCA in Santa Monica California back in 1924. The non-profit orginization is a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. They offer a proven and and fun way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills. More>>>

The Boca Raton Toastmasters started 37 years ago and has a chapter to met anyone’s schedule or location. They are spread all over the city meeting at different times and different days.

I started having fun at the meeting the moment I walked in the door. I was greeted warmly and was introduced to everyone! I felt instantly accepted and welcome. The meeting was incredible.

When the meeting starts there is a Toastmaster who is the MC. He or she opens with an introduction of the president and then invites the president up to speak. The presidents name is Andre, a Kung Fu School Owner in Boca Raton. He came to the podium and started by thanking everyone and then asked me to stand and introduce myself. He asked what I was hoping to get out of the group. I said I wanted to start doing seminars on the topics of my business and wanted to fine tune my skills and learn to speak and transfer information to others more effectively.

The meeting went on and I heard many of the group members give speeches, some short and off the cuff, others planned and rehearsed, but all were amazing and exciting. I really don’t have anything else to compare it to. When it was over Tim the new member officer asked me what I thought. I said Sign me up!

If you would like to learn to become a better speaker and leader I HIGHLY recommend the Toastmasters. Do a Google search for the club in your city. They aren’t hard to find and the people are a real outstanding bunch.

why doesnt a toastmaster use a toaster?

Q:

A: in case he burns it

I have a 1942 toastmaster 1B9 toaster. 110VAC or DC. How do I power it with DC?

Q: Other toasters specify AC. This one says AC or DC. Is an inverter needed or can it really be powered by DC without converting to AC. If so what voltage and amps?

A: A toaster uses a long piece of special wire that heats up (and glows orange) when connected to the power line. It doesn't care whether the power is AC or DC as long as there's enough of it. To run the toaster on DC, you will need 110 Volts and probably 10-15 Amperes (since most toasters seem to be around 1000-1500 watts). If your old toaster has a wattage listed on the label, you can use the equation P=I*E (P=power in watts, E=voltage, I=current in Amperes) to figure what current you need.

Before the 1950s, some places in the US, particularly a few neighborhoods in New York City, still had DC power instead of AC. Appliances that could operate on DC mentioned that fact so they could be sold to users in those areas.

Can the heating elements in a toaster/oven be replaced?

Q: The upper heating elements of my Toastmaster toaster/oven/broiler curved towards the top of the inside toaster ( looks like they're melting!?) and, of course, is not heating food in the right way! The toaster it's in very good conditions, but the warranty expired 3 years ago. Does anybody know if thoose heating elements can be replaced? Can I find them in a store? Thanks!

A: The last time I took one apart with a problem like that I found that the power wires were spot welded onto the heating wires. Unless you know someone who can do that it doesn't pay to buy replacement heating elements because you can't finish the repair.
