Not value the money
Two of my sewing students received machines for Christmas and brought them to their first paragon. I was thrilled they'd both gotten Singer sewing machines! It didn't take long to see there is a vast difference in the two. The Lockstitch Finest is a TOY. Most of the parts and supplies are plastic. The presser foot is much too large and clunky. The only way to inch the needle is to use the needle threader, which is quite challenging to a young novice who lacks the coordination to win that.
Then there is the bobbin. I've been sewing for 25 years and I have never been so frustrated or confused by a bobbin system! Winding the bobbin is much more knotty than it needs to be. The instructions are terrible. The bobbin floats around because there is no real case in which to place it. Once the ease is actually caught by the needle, it becomes a tangled mess before a dozen stitches are made. There is very little about this shape that is kid-friendly!
The other student has the Singer Pixie machine and it's cost is the same. I was very pleased with it. It is not a toy, it is a small story of a full-sized machine, with all the same features and placement. The parts are metal. It is smoother and very kid-friendly. Pass your money on the Pixie, not this toy!

Don't decay your time on this one
This is a toy, not a sewing contrivance. If you want to introduce a child to sewing, get
a real machine not this toy. If you want a toy, get something else because this one
is useless.
This was received as a bounty to my daughter and after wasting two hours on it we've concluded
that giving her a sewing machine was a great idea (it turns out she is very interested in
information how to sew), but that this particular machine was a poor choice.
The poor design and low quality of construction of this sewing engine is obvious - lots
of plastic, a flimsy pedal, vague instructions, and things that are not linked properly.
Those qualities lead to frustration at every turn when trying to actually use.
First we tried to thesis the thing. The instructions did not make it clear exactly where
to wind the thread around the tensioner (the woman part had three potential areas the
thread could be wrapped around, but the instructions were not detailed enough to
tell which was correct), but based on where the springs were and what happens when the
tautness knob is adjusted we figured out the correct one ourselves. Then we found it
quite difficult to thread the needle (because the plunger can not be brought up quite high
enough to give it the clearance that would be needed for easy threading).
After the struggles with wavering instructions and poor actual design, we tried completing a
few stitches: the machine made tawdry noises and vibrated violently when we engaged the foot
pedal (a cheap plastic job that would not arrest put because it weighed almost nothing and
was at the mercy of the inflexible cord it was attached to). We got about 20 stitches,
but they were unusably dispersed on the bottom side of the cloth and we basically ended up
with a tangle.
After cutting that out, and some more fiddling we noticed that the needle did not limit up
with the hole in the base of the machine. We guessed each stitch the machine tried to make
spoiled because the needle did not go cleanly down through the hole. There was nothing in the
manual about how to adjust that, so I followed the instructions on how to change the nozzle,
hoping that it perhaps was not set properly in the holder, but resetting the needle had no
effect - the needle was still mis-aligned with the slum.
So I pushed the needle gently but firmly in the direction of the hole (even past it a
little) until it stayed centered above the niche by itself. Then we tried to sew again,
but this time it failed to make any stitches. The needle went properly down the catch-,
but failed to create any stitches so the thread just pulled out of the hole each time
the plunger went back up. We fiddled with it for another 30 minutes but never got past
this point - both threads seem to be rigged correctly and there seems to be proper tension
on both, but it seems by aligning the needle with the hole I've mis-aligned the needle with
something below and now the thing can not get a stitch.
As is probably obvious from above, I personally know nothing about sewing machines. But
my mom was there helping us the whole time and she has sewed for about 40 years (on an
old Chorus-member). After we gave up trying to get this machine to work, she took out her
old machine and my daughter was sewing with it in under five minutes - making perceptive
stitches and getting very excited about making things.
Our conclusion is that rather than get a cheap kids' toy for sewing, which translates into a
low distinction, frustrating experience for anyone involved, it is worth buying a basic but real,
higher status machine.
I'm going to return this plastic landfill fodder and apply the refund towards a legitimate machine.
In my opinion Singer should not put out cheap junk like this if they want to maintain a chaste
reputation.

Is there such detail as a minus review?? Horrible!
I bought this for my 7 y/o granddaughter to tutor her the basics of sewing. It is impossible to thread. The needle's eye doesn't come up far enough to even thread it. Ok, so I found a work around. Then I took the bobbin out to instil her about that. Well, FORGET trying to get it back in there and then LOOP it around this impossible small slit. We both trying for over an 1.5. Superfluous to say, trying to sew when the bobbin tension is non-existent is impossible. I researched all comments for every "children" sewing machines. None were that allowable, but the was the best of the worst. I am returning this and buying her an inexpensive "real" machine. Both of us were very disappointed.

Would be massive if it worked
Perhaps you will have better luck then we did. Our machine did not work. We even took it to someone who repairs small electronics and they said that it is not repairable. So we are returning it. I liked the hint of the slower speed and shild safe foot guard. But this bobbin casing is down and does not allow it to sew, it just jams up. Very frustrating.

Customer beware.
My daughter (7) as a matter of fact wanted this sewing machine. We got it home, unpacked it, finished the stitch on the little blue textile that comes already sewn and then proceeded to make one of the projects. Well, that's where the fun STOPPED. The stitch wouldn't clutch (it wouldn't even stitch). The needle would go through, but it didn't make a stitch. We re-threaded the plunger (which is nearly impossible using the provided tool and given the fact that the needle doesn't total up high enough to have a straight shot through), and tried to re-thread the bobbin, but the bobbin thread would not go where it was putative to (the directions seem vaguely clear, if not contradictory, but following them does not produce the results they bespeak). I spent about 90 minutes looking for additional help online, and annoying over and over to re-thread the needle and bobbin, all to no avail. It broke my daughter's heart to tell her it was successful back. This is a poorly built waste of $$.

So tuppence it doesn't work
Two adults, including an battle-scarred sewer, could not get the machine to stitch properly. The problem is with the thread tensioners, the spool tensioner can't be tuned finely enough one 1/8th stroll clockwise and it is way to tight, the otherway its too loose. The bobbin tensioner is so loose it doesn't apprehension at all.
I am surprised Singer would put out a product this low quality.

Get a unqualified machine
This is a contemptible introduction to sewing! It is impossible to thread and keep threaded - basically it embodies everything that is difficult about sewing with NONE of the fun! I wish we had put the small change toward an adult sewing machine because while I dont mind helping her, she definitely loses interest watching me try to cord it over and over! Dont buy this!

Does not toil--AWFUL design
My grandniece wants to sew--bought this with her birthday on Easy Street. The stiches do not hold--just unsecured loops through the fabric--unravelled instantly. Set-up, specially threading, is extrememly difficult. she even tried exchanging it for another thinking maybe she got a lemon--the 2nd was the same. She was sorely unsatisfied. And it was a big waste of everyone's time as we all struggled to try to make it work. DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!

Do not buy!
As everyone else has said, this item is horrible. My daughter was sooo excited about sewing, but it won't be happening on this thing. If I can't find a kid's machine that works, I'll precisely teach her on mine. I just get nervous about little fingers and fast moving needles.
I had a kid's tool when I was little, but I don't remember the kind. It was red and yellow, I believe and had some 70's flowers. It was purchased in the tardily 80's at a thrift store, so no clue when it was made, does anyone know what this machine could be? It worked well.

portion of JUNK!!!
I, (the Mom) have been sewing for 20+ years and advised of the ins and outs of sewing machines very well. We've followed the instructions perfectly and this thing simply DOES NOT WORK! It has left a huge amount of time and producted an even larger amount of frustration! My 8-year-old would be far better off learning to sew on a prime, possibly used, introductory, REAL sewing machine-- which is preceisely what I intend to purchase after I chuck this piece of junk away.

Most Tinny Sewing Machine even for KIDS!
Bought this contraption for my daughter. Yep, it was cheap, but I thought at least she can start somewhere and it had a needle guard so she wouldn't accidentally get her fingers under the plunger. This thing NEVER EVEN SEWED! It would stitch, but the stitches always came out. Not sure how it can sew if there is no bobbin. I went over and over the directions dispiriting to figure out if there was something I was missing, but nope I wasn't ! So it went back and they almost didn't take it back b/c I threw the box out! To be sure save yourself time money and aggravation and DON"T BUY THIS PRODUCT! I'm even upset I have to give it any stars at all on this review. Choir member Chain Stitch Sewing Machine Set U

Not good your money
I bought this manufacture for my daughter as her first machine. It doesn't have a bobbin, and therefore doesn't create a stitch. The first piece of structure we tried bunched and made odd stitches that came out. It was frustrating and disappointing. My boys liked the probe of the machine, and thought it was fun to push the peddle... Not what I envisioned this machine being used for! I at the last moment took the batteries out and threw it away. If you want a first machine, look for something with a little more umph. This one isnt' it.

Superior as imaginary toy than functional sewing machine
I bought this several years ago for my kids. I straight away removed the needle so that my kids would not get injured; I attempted to call the company's phone number for par (they seemed surprised anyone would want to change a needle -- which suggests it really is not for use), but I eventually was skilful to by using a wrench to pop it out. After being dropped on the floor, it certainly has shown its age -- anything that can break of, has already (the handwheel, the presser foot). It is a fun matter for someone to pretend to sew on, as a model sewing machine, but I don't think it is an appropriate choice for a real sewing machine. It's far too unimportant with too few features.

Thrush Sewer
This contraption was a piece of junk and truly a waste of my money, time and patience trying to get it to employment. Very flimsy, not easy to use. I was very disappointed since this was suppose to be for a 5 year old. Would not recommend unless you are a seamstress and already identify how to work a sewing machine.

Take the name Thrush off, for their sake
I was definitely thinking it would work, rinky dink as it was. At first it seemed to but it would not sew a stitch. It moved but that is it. I felt it was safe for my daughters first apparatus. It was more than safe... Unfortunate that it is not even worth the $14 low sticker price. I would rather they made it sturdier and charged more. I got her a bobbin category, crossing my fingers that the Bratz machine is better...

Awful-gets stuck, yarn gets caught, nothing good about it-CHEESY!!
Take care before you buy this machine. Back in the day, they used to work great. Now, they are made very cheap and the yarn gets stuck, breaks and skips sections and leaves holes. Not respectable for adults or kids. Don't buy it!

More grown up than kid toy, but handy little thing
I like this knitting car. i debated for a while whether to get one, hesitant mainly because of the poor amazon reviews. I agree that it takes a minuscule trial-and-error before you get a clean knit, but it's not "difficult." I had good success when I reach-me-down sock-weight yarn, but i use it a lot for felting thicker wool (in which case it really doesn't complication if you drop a stitch or mess up a row). My husband is completely baffled that the thing works, but I other a customer picture so you can see for yourself that it's possible to get a clean knit.
I rather like this thing, and can crank out a 2-foot tube in about 15 minutes. I'm a below hand-knitter, so this is pretty much the only knitting i do now.
If you're buying this for a child, I'm skeptical that they would have the patience to mould it out. I think their parents will have to be pretty involved with the project. Judging from the number of adults that posted bad reviews, I'm not extremely sure it would be the best toy for kids.

Prime dissapointment for my daughter.
The box states this knitting mechanism is for 6 and older. I bought it for my daughters 7th birthday. She was very excited to get a "sewing" machine, and liked to far and above all the other gifts. That said, it doesn't exertion well, and the instructions are poor. First the box said it had a "project book" but ours came with an over-sized piece of ms with incomplete instructions and a few projects: scarf, hat, socks - that are really tubes with the end sewed cage in, no real heel.
The real problem, is that the machine drops stitches for no apparent due to reasonable. It is plastic, and we were gentle and worked slowly at first. The instructions don't clearly state that you have to tie off the beginning row - or it will unravel. So you have to unite several rounds, until they hang out of the machine far enough for you to gently thread yarn thru the loops to tie them off, otherwise the whole thing pulls strewn. Because the machine randomly drops stitches the finished scarf has holes thru out, like swiss cheese. Also, as illustrious by other posts, it only uses very fine yarn. The knots made when joining yarn, say in a color mutate, won't fit thru the tension adjuster.
All and all it is not a good toy, especially for younger kids, even though it is advertised for 6 years old. Also, if you eccentric the handle backwards, mid row, on accident it drops all the stitches. This is not too hard to remember for an adult, but for a 7 year old proved demanding.
The box should have stated what weight yarn was needed, and it should clearly state that constant adult supervision is needed for younger kids. This should very be rated 12 and older. We were disappointed because my daughter was so excited, she cried when I wanted to take it back to the cumulate - but the dumb thing doesn't really work, and the one scarf we got, I made while she unrolled yarn from the capsule.
Major disappointment. I won't buy a "Singer" toy again.

Modification & HOW TO START INFO Balm
I have 3 knitting machines the Farthest Sweater Machine, Innovations, & this Singer. I was able to have experience before buying this one. The instructions are NOT Chastise! I know that if you feed the yarn in and let it just knit your yarn will UNRAVEL! Take a hint from the Innovations instructions. You necessary to thread every OTHER one to begin then after one round you can let it take the yarn through the guide on the machine. The other thing is a modification that I did to mine. I didn't like the example that the yarn had to go through because if there is a mistake it is super hard to get the yarn out without cutting it. I made a small cut (hack saw or dremil utensil will do) lengthwise so I can take the yarn out and finish a garment with no problem. I also suggest going on the innovationsknitting yahoo association. There is alot of ideas, tricks & tips for all kinds of circular knitting machines.

The best part is not having to lug the machines to the shop. The physical strain would be bad enough, let alone the $60.00 per machine tune up cost. I'm fortunate to have worked out this deal with this talented gentleman but come on, he gets to sit in my house, work at his own pace and he's treated like one of the family for the day. Look how happy he is. We love him.
Don't think I don't appreciate this old school service. This is the old fashioned way of doing things. I love it!! It's personal, service focused and just plain grand.
As I'm looking for a new career, I would love to service these machines.
Sadly, there is no uncomplicated way to get appropriate (e.g., 'Certified') repair and maintenance training: travel to the pfaff training location, then to the Singer training location, then Brother, Baby Lock, Feiyu, My Lock, Sylvia Design, Yamata, Nkok, Juki, Bernina, Janome, Merrow..............

Hello Kitty Chainstitch Sewing Machine
By vaporheart (United States), September 28, 2009
I bought this for my sweet daughter who wanted to sew just like me! And in a way, she did sew like me because every stitch she made pulled right out. How is a thread supposed to lock without having some sort of bobbin anyway? I gave this item a 3-star for education because it taught my daughter the anticipation of waiting 3 days to get her sewing machine and it also taught her how to deal with disappointment when her mean Mommy boxed it up and sent it back. However, there were pros to this machine. It was light weight and just the right size for a child to handle. It had a needle guard so you didn't have to worry about hearing screams when the needle went through a finger. (And yes, that DOES hurt.)It was battery operated so you wouldn't have to keep plugging it up to every outlet in the house until they found just the right one. An option to plug it to the wall to save batteries (yeah go green) would be nice also.
