Sojourn away from this one.
I bought this refrigerator/freezer in September of 2008, and by Sept/Oct of 2009 it was destroyed. Something in the door behind the ice container starting making a horrific smashing sound every time we closed the entrance way, until the display lights on the door died along with the ice and water making and dispensing abilities. I called LG and they sent a technician not to patch up the fridge but to replace some board in the fridge because of it's failure to be as energy-efficient as advertised. Turns out that the fridge was only forcefulness-efficient with the ice-maker turned off. LG came to an agreement with the DOE to replace the boards and/or? to reimburse the fridge owners with a $21 payment/yr.
I was advised by LG that I should conjunction one of their authorized repair people who could repair the fridge. As of today (Dec 27, 2009), my fridge entrance is still not fixed and the technician was unable to diagnose the problem. He tried replacing the digital set forth and the door to no avail. I am not hopeful that there is a fix except replacement. For a fridge that cost me in excess of $3000, I expected much more, and you should too. So, I support you don't buy this particular item.
What I do like about the fridge is the double freezer drawers on the bottom. In fact, this was the bigger reason that I chose to buy this appliance.
As an aside, I had an LG gas dryer that broke within a year. It had the same problem at least twice more during it's 5-yr soul until we decided to buy a new electic dryer. I think that buying an extended warranty on LG products would be a assets c incriminating evidence idea. Maybe it would be an even better idea to stay away from this manufacturer altogether.

Consumer BEWARE!
I purchased this archetype LG Fridge in Jan of this year. Yesterday (6months later), I believe they finally got it fixed! THe freezer drawers were not air trim so they stayed frosted up and you couldn't open them except by force and the panel readout went out brusquely after installation. The Icemaker never did really work well, it hardly made ice and when it did you had to dip it from the maker. Also, the temp fluctuated so much that I could not keep items in it such as out or things that spoil easily. Thank goodness we have an old fridge for back-up and I bought insurance that repairs my relevance from the dealer!! After replacing 2 main board computer panels, 2 fans, and all of the seals, I for all have a working product!!! Well, for now at least!! WAY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR A MAYBE! If you are going to purchase this fridge, BUY Guarantee!!!!!!

Not well meant
My bride and I bought this French door, counter depth Electrolux in late April of this year (2010.) I have to say, I am not glad with this refrigerator at all.
First, it is occasionally very noisy and sounds like popcorn is popping inside. I mark this is related to the icemaker, which also doesn't dispense very well at all.
Second, the door design on this unit is conscience-stricken. There is a moving weatherseal on the right-hand door that keeps it from just naturally shutting down. You have to exert a fair amount of force to close it. With the icemaker on the left door (and after years of side-by-side units) the quickly hand door is the natural one to use to access the fridge. Because of the hinged seal strip, it often doesn't fully close. Why they didn't put the seal on the left door is beyond me. It also doesn't indicate that it is ajar and the icemaker in fact makes noise like it is working, but it doesn't engage and dispense ice.
Third and finally, it is outrageously easy to cause the freezer baskets to jump out of their mounts and jam up.
I would highly not recommend this portion.

Is it true that LG refrigerators are really not that good?
Q: I was reading a few customer opinions on various sites about LG refrigerators, and most of them did not sound too good. Some people were saying that the refrigerator's compressor failed, although LG has a 7-year warranty on it now. The people at Best Buy convinced me that they are actually some of the best refrigerators out there, so I bought one, confiding in their word. I still have second thoughts, and I was thinking about finding out more while I still have the chance to take it back. The reason why I did buy it so fast anyway was because I really need a new refrigerator, and I don't have the money to throw away on a temporary one, so I decided to get something that seemed good.
About Stephen C's answer: The Best Buy salesmen who sell these do not receive a commission, so no matter if the sell the fridge or not, they're still paid the same way.
Also, the fact that LG itself will fix my refrigerator and not Best Buy is a good thing, because Best Buy probably does not have the parts or knowledge necessary to repair a fridge made by LG.
And about the thing where you said that the industry is going from a 5-year warranty to a 1-year warranty on a sealed compressor...I don't know what you mean by that. I don't want to sound naive, but I don't think the salesman lied to me when saying about the warranty on the compressor. Even when asking me if I want a service plan on it when I was buying it, he said that it comes with a 7-year warranty on the compressor anyway, fact that I don't think was in his interest necessarily because they want to get as much money out of your pocket as possible. I'm positive they wouldn't have the courage to lie & hope to get away with it.
A: well LG's parent company is Samsung and Samsung is very good, the difference is that Samsung is 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 korean. LG is completely korean. LG's perform well and are tested extensively yet they do not last well they have had many reals with the refrigerant, chemicals escaping into the cooling tub, bay. I would spend another 5-750 on a Samsung or Maytag macause they certainly last much longer
How good are LG Refrigerators compared to Whirlpool Gold Refrigerators.?

LG Refrigerators any good?
Q: I'm looking to buy a new refrigerator, French Door style, and preferably titanium (less fingerprints supposedly, and magnets stick unlike stainless); but stainless would do if a fridge is really much better and only available with that finish. I also want water/ice in the door (or the water inside as a few have, but built in for sure)
When searching through random sites and epinions.com, pretty much all of the major manufacturers have pretty horrible reviews. I looked at LG, GE, Maytag, Kitchenaid, Whirlpool, Jenn-Air, Amana, Frigidaire, and probably some others. Again, most mention numerous problems and bad customer service issues. While I realize that most people generally post a review if they had a problem, but with so many bad posts it makes me very hesitant to buy just about any of them.
So I wanted to see if anyone on here has a recommendation for one that fits the above specs? Any help, or definite no-no's would be really appreciated. thank you!
A: check Consumers Reports (Consumer Union) magazine or site. We recently bought a Whirlpool double door w/ ice & water (filtered), in the door. Rated as good as the higher price names like LG, with fewer repair issues...about $800 - 1000. at Lowes.
