Electrolux - about microwave oven
I Manasi Deshpande brought Electrolux microwave-oven in Feb 2005. One day while using it the handle(door frame) broke off. then i lodged complaint by calling 9370240149(Mr. Bishnoi) about the same. Within 24 hrs their serviceman (Rajesh Bhagawat) came & checked our microwave. He said their cant repair it. he said you need to buy new one or purchase new model in buyback scheme. I purchased a Fridgidare microwave made by Electrolux in 11/08. It had chips on the inner portion of the door. Then the front window fogged up and never went away./ After NUMEROUS CALLS TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TALKING TO WARRANTY DEPT. (THAILAND CALL CENTER), NO HELP. The customer service/parts people in the US ordered a new door, the wrong color came in (I needed black). After over three months, still no door. Had to write President and CEO in Sweden to complain and then had a new microwave installed. Same problem, more chips and fogged window. The so-=called rep. at corporate in Augusta, GA never returned 5 calls. Had to get the repair people out who verified yes, the door is indeed defective. Just wrote the Pres. and CEO in Sweden again;s till waiting for a response. Forget the overseas call centers, no matter what you say, they read from a script and DON'T LISTEN TO WHAT YOU SAY!!! What's up with that. Hopefully I'll get another new unit, but even repair people in NM say bad service and this applies to many other manufacturers who have call centers overseas!

Beautifully designed to match other built-in appliances: AEG ...
Building a microwave oven into a wall unit frees up work top space, allows it to be positioned more ergonomically and gives a more streamlined effect. For some homeowners a sleek, fully coordinated look is more important than budget. The only way to achieve this is with a ‘built-in microwave oven’ which ensures a fully built-in look and perfect coordination with an oven and hob.
Combining microwave cooking with the grill browns and crisps the food giving you speed and fantastic results. For real convenience, use the quick start control which lets you cook for 30 seconds at full power at the touch of a button – ideal for common tasks such as warming up drinks.
The MCD3880EM microwave oven and grill is finished in anti-finger print stainless steel and as with all AEG-Electrolux models is fully built-in so no kits are required, giving easy installation and a perfect fit. This model can also be ‘built under’.

Q:
Frigidaire Microwave Oven Problems. Recall?
Q: I have a Frigidaire/Electrolux Microwave Oven. Model # PLMB 186CCB
Manufactured in 10/2003.
About 4 months ago, I was melting some butter and the microwave
started sparking as if metal had been placed in it and turned on. I
immediately opened the oven and then reset the timer and tried again.
Once again, it started that sparking and it was making very loud
"Zapping" noises. I gave up and didn't think about it again until
about 3 weeks later when he same thing happened. I decided to
completely rinse out the inside of the oven and also thooughly wash
the glass rotating dish inside. I didn't have anymore occurances
until 3 days ago when I was heating up some coffee and I had left the
room to give my baby a bottle and when I returned (approximately 30
seconds later) the oven was on fire inside! A hole was burned through
the top of the oven and after contacting Frigidaire, they told me that
my warranty was up but they would give me a 50% rebate on my next
Frigidaire microwave oven.
Thing is, when I asked the service rep about what had happened, his
response to me was "Yes, i've had other calls where the same thing has
happened". So i'm thinking they really should be replacing my
microwave. I mean, if they knew about this sort of thing taking place
(the rep called it "spontaneous interior combustion") shouldn't they
be recalling the oven? Anyone know of someone I can contact regarding
this issue? Frigidaire doesn't give out their email addresses, it's
one of those form pages that you send to them. So i'm just thinking
if this is something that happens, consumers should be aware of it.
Any info would be great. Thanks
A: This type of failure is caused by grease and food particles getting in an area where the microwaves are concentrated such as where the microwaves enter the oven cavity. The buzzing and sparking and yellow light is this dirt burning. There is also some carbonizing of this material as it burns and where this carbon builds up it is more susceptible to arcing with the buzzing and sparking and yellow flashing. If this is not cleaned off there will eventually be more and more arcing and eventually a small fire. This is not considered a great danger as the unit will shut down with excessive heat in the oven cavity and the fire is contained and will not spread and will die out quickly after the shutdown as the material in the oven cavity does not support combustion. This can happen in virtually any brand microwave. Some are more susceptible than others.

WOW. I sure didn't know this question would get this sort of reaction. First let me say this, my house didn't even come close to burning down. The oven is built in and encased ... for lack of a better description. Anyway, yea, it was enough to freak me out a bit, but the hole inside the top of the microwave oven is about the size of a dime.
And to Emily, who felt it her job to lecture me on how I should react to certain things:
I am very careful about what my kids are exposed to. I have boys, ages, 17,12,4, and 2 and they are well taken care of. The sparking noises I mentioned, were what commonly happens when metal is put in the oven. Since I hadn't put metal in the oven, I thought perhaps the glass rotating dish that sits turns in the bottom of the microwave had ... I dont know, maybe some SOS pad left on it and maybe that was causing the noise/spark. This wasn't anything "electrical". But the last thing this forum is for is for another person to be so critical. Not necessary
